1.3 bug report

Richard Ash (audacity-help)
Quite a major one, I'm afraid.

I imported some wav files into audacity 1.2.4 (CVS), and did some
editing before saving them. I then wanted to do noise removal, so
thought I'd try out the improved version from 1.3, so I checked it out
of CVS, make clean them make (last night's CVS).

When I tried opening it today, everything seemed to be working fine
until I processed the whole recording, and went (still in 1.3) to tidy
the end up. When I got there, I discover that the "end" is half way
through what I saved in 1.2, the rest is truncated. Even odder, the time
code is correct for the real end, as is the waveform view!

When I saved the project and tried to re-open it in 1.2, I get a project
with a stereo track in it, but no audio at all on that track.

Are 1.2 and 1.3 projects intended to be interchangeable?

Richard

Projects saved in 1.2 should be open in 1.3.  If this fails, it's a bug.

Projects saved in 1.3 cannot be opened in 1.2 (because of Monty's new
directory structure).

I just checked in a change to AUDACITY_FILE_FORMAT_VERSION, which should
allow Audacity to detect that the newer files are incompatible.
Unfortunately it looks like we never actually implemented this detection
code.  We need to write such a check, and ideally get it into a 1.2.4
release; otherwise Audacity 1.2.4 will (like 1.2.3) open v1.3 project
files without complaining, and silently fail.
