Thanks Steve, nice one!  I think a student introduced me to Linux when
I could boot to it off a floppy disk in about 1992/3, would that have
been possible or have I remembered it wrong?  I was using Unix before
that.

It would certainly have been possible to boot Linux off a floppy disk. In fact you can still do that if you have a machine with a floppy drive: http://distro.ibiblio.org/baslinux/
