Export Labels - possible enh bug

Peter Sampson-2
Just sounding this out before potentially logging it as an enh/bug on Bugzilla.

I note that when you make an Export Labels, the default name for the exporte file
is based on the Label track;s Track Name.  Which means that if the user doesn't
rename it (I never do) the default is "Label Track.txt".

This can potentially lead to a user potentially unintentionally overwriting a pre-existing
"Label Track.txt". file.   IIRC this was raised by a poster on the Forum recently.

Contrast this with Export Audaio and Export Selection whicg both default to an audio file
based on the name of the Project - not the name of the audio track.

My thinking is that it would be better if the Label track export default filename was similarly
based on the project name.

Thoughts.

Explicitly the offered file name is that of the lowest label track.

Do you have a URL for that Forum post? I didn't notice it.

There is an overwrite warning if the file to be exported already exists,
whatever the name of the label track. So why is this a problem?

My recollection is that Vaughan made label export take the label track
name in response to user requests.

Wiki Feature Requests has:

"Include project name in exported file name: for example:
  projectname_labels.txt  (2 votes)"

It's hard to please everyone. Should we use the project name if there is
one, if and only if the bottom label track's name is the default "Label Track"?

Do you not get this warning?

On Linux, the default is an empty file name.
The project file name is only offered if the project has been saved,

Another export type is Spectrum.txt.
In this case, the file "appears" to be silently overwritten (that's what I thought when I first saw it, and I'm not the only one).
Actually, the file is (silently) appended.

I agree that there could be benefit in bringing some predictability to this, but I'm not convinced that using the project name is the best answer, because many users don't save projects, so there is no name offered by default.

The project name can also be set by importing a file in an unsaved
project, though it looks like that only happens if the import creates
the first track in the project.
