Hello everyone,
My name is Renato and, as some friends of mine who have already subscribed in the mailing list, I have a work in which I need to contribute to a free software project. My professor gave me Audacity, and so I started looking for something I could help with. Happily, with the help of my friends, I got to compile and run Audacity in my computer. I checked bugzilla to try to find something that I believe I could do. The, I found this enhancement: http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=346, came from this closed bug (http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=330). Before doing anything, I'd like to know:
In Bugzilla, I saw some topics about enhancements, and sometimes there are important discussions about how to modify Audacity's interface, as it affects the user's usage of the program. This case seems to be very straighforward, given it deals only with a new button and changes an error message. However, if anyone have already had an ideia of how this could be, it would be nice to know. Thanks for the attention! Hi
If you would like something really useful to work on, it would be great if the view of each track (Waveform, Waveform (dB), Spectrogram, Spectrogram (logF), Pitch (EAC)) were saved to the project (AUP) file on save, along with everything else. Hi Martin,
As you said, it really seems an useful improvement. But unhappily I have to say that my knowledge about how to use audacity is very limited (if none). When our teachers, at university, gave us projects to try to contribute, it would have been nice if they had let us choose the ones we had more knowledge. Also, as my first time, I think I would be more confortable in doing something simple (althought not so essential). Within the context of this little enhancement I purposed, do you think there is any problem? Thanks, Renato ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ _______________________________________________ audacity-devel mailing list [hidden email] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/audacity-devel |

It would also have been nice if they had discussed their proposal with the Audacity team first. We welcome contributions, and particularly welcome people that make regular contributions (not only for code contributions, but also contributing to documentation, translation, user support and other areas), but we do not have the resources to offer a free mentoring service. If you'd like a task which is more "leg work" than "programming", it would be useful if we knew which of the 90+ LADSPA plug-ins (all very old) work correctly in the current version of Audacity, which ones don't work and which (if any) cause serious issues (such as crashing or data loss). The LADSPA plug-ins that I am referring to are the "set of over 90 LADSPA plug-ins" offered here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/plugins That's just a suggestion, and you're welcome to pick something else if you prefer. Hi Steve, I completely understand your point. This is the first time my professors try to do something like this, and they put us in many different projects to see how would be experience. Feedbacks like the one you gave will be passed to them, and I thank you for the comprehension. It is nice to see an active community as audacity developers' - and that try to help people that are in experiences as mine. As one of the main purposes of our study, with this project, is to understand legacy code, I believe I'll have to contribute in other ways. As I saw there will be no problems, I'll try to make that little enhancement I purposed in my first mail. Thanks for the help! Renato 2014-10-28 15:25 GMT-02:00 Steve the Fiddle <[hidden email]>:

I agree. This would be very useful. It would demand a redefinition of the DTD, which, by the way is already outdated (the specification doesn't agree with what is actually saved. Hi, Renato.
Martyn and Steve are trying to point you to higher priority tasks, but we welcome whatever you can contribute! Thanks! Regarding Steve's point about teachers sending students to us but not contacting us, I totally agree it is better if they are in touch with us directly. So please let your teacher know that (as we still don't know who that is and cannot interact directly). - Vaughan On 10/28/2014 12:18 PM, Renato Cordeiro wrote: > Hi Steve, > > I completely understand your point.
