Name of the new combo box in the selection bar for screen readers

David Bailes-3
Robert, I've had a mail from Gary asking what the accessibility name of the combo box is. Currently it has no name, but the equivalent combo box in the spectral selection toolbar has the name "spectral selection". Maybe it should have the name "time selection"? What do you think?

Gary was finding that Jaws was using the name "audio position" for the combo box. Since it had no name, it used some nearby text, but I can stop this happening by giving it the name "\a" if necessary.

David.

Re: Name of the new combo box in the selection bar for screen readers

Robert Hänggi
Hi David

Is there a need for a title?
I would use a dummy name in both cases (such as character 07, the same
we've used for some panels).

I'll put a dummy name for the new combo box, but leave the one in the spectral selection bar as it is - probably not used by very many screen readers, and the word selection is not included in the options in the combo box.

The main reason being that it is so cumbersome to use.
There's for once the issue with floating toolbars.
We should perhaps try to include floating toolbars in the normal cycle
of "Control-F6" or even redirect the tab keys.

BTW, recently I've got a lot of problems that modeless dialogs (and
toolbars) do not get focus automatically.
However, I suspect that this is a specific problem on my Windows 10 machine.

As a second note, there's actually no easy way to determine if
spectral editing is on or off.

Anyway, I think that a dummy is fine as it reduces the overall
verbosity in the selection toolbar.
Thx

The main reason being that it is so cumbersome to use.
There's for once the issue with floating toolbars.

Yes, this bug is a pain:

We should perhaps try to include floating toolbars in the normal cycle
of "Control-F6" or even redirect the tab keys.

if the above bug were fixed, then keyboard users wouldn't have to deal with floating toolbars.

BTW, recently I've got a lot of problems that modeless dialogs (and
toolbars) do not get focus automatically.
However, I suspect that this is a specific problem on my Windows 10 machine.

Are there any circumstances in which the focus misbehaves which I could try to reproduce? I'm not sure how it could be specific to your machine, and focus problems are obviously important.

David.

As a second note, there's actually no easy way to determine if
spectral editing is on or off.

Anyway, I think that a dummy is fine as it reduces the overall
verbosity in the selection toolbar.

Hi

I've got a shortcut assigned to a VST Equalizer.
On pressing, it opens very briefly (JAWS speaks the first control,
NVDA hasn't the time), then the focus returns to the TCP.
I have to press Alt+F6 to focus on the effect unless a tool bar is
floating which needs a secondary key press.
