Problems with vanilla sbsms 2.0.0

Bartosz Brachaczek
Hi,

There is a problem with sbsms. Sbsms 2.0.0 is buggy and the Sliding
Time Scale effect is broken with vanilla sbsms, at least on Linux
x86_64. I see you have a fixed version bundled in Audacity sources,
but still your build system prefers the system version of the library
and some Linux distributions[1] link Audacity against vanilla sbsms
2.0.0. Do you plan to contact sbsms author so that he can include your
fixes and release a bugfix update?

[1] Gentoo for sure, but from what I checked about Debian, it's an
issue there as well.

Cheers,
Bartosz Brachaczek

Debian and Ubuntu uses the sbsms version from upstream.

Re: Problems with vanilla sbsms 2.0.0

Clayton Otey
Is this bugginess is limited to the (resolved in audacity) 64-bit only corrupted output which sounds 'decimated'?
If so, I can quickly release 2.0.1 which fixes this.

Yes, exactly. I didn't know you were the one who fixed it, actually I
thought you didn't even know about it ;) . I'd be great to see 2.0.1
released with this fix.

He probably meant sbsms 2.0.1 (not Audacity).

The source tarball seems to be not be clean. It constains a dot
directory containing "._libsbsms-2.0.1". The libsbsms-2.0.1 directory
contains a bunch of files starting with "._".

Can you release a new fixed tarball? I checked that running "./configure
&& make dist" produces a correct tarball (except that the win directory
is not included).

Do you use a version control system? The svn repository on sourceforge
is totally outdated.

Uploaded a new tar ball.
It was an issue with mac filesystems interacting with tar, which I didn't know about until now.
I don't use the sourceforge svn.  Perhaps I should start using it again.

Thanks.

This tarball does not contain the test directory like the 2.0.0 release.
Is this intentional?

Using any kind of version control system is recommended.

I use svn locally.
The exclusion of the test directory was unintentional.  I cleaned up a few extraneous files.
Thanks for being more thorough than me about the release.

Should Audacity be pulling this into lib-src replacing what is there? I
would like to get to doing a load of library updates at some point so
can add this to the list.

This change was first made in lib-src regarding the 64 bit linux bug.

http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482

I hadn't yet bothered to fix the upstream library.
